Roles &
Responsibilities
How I will lead as Mayor
My approach has always been to focus on practical solutions, responsible spending, and strong collaboration between all levels of government. As Mayor, I will continue working to ensure the City of Moncton remains focused on its core responsibilities while advocating for the resources our community needs to continue growing.
Good leadership means understanding what the City can control, working cooperatively with provincial and federal partners, and making decisions that support residents today while planning for the future
Your tax dollars at work
Municipal property taxes fund the core services that residents rely on every day. These include policing, fire protection, by law enforcement, road maintenance, transit, recreation, and other essential city operations. My focus has always been on making sure these tax dollars are used responsibly and directed toward the services that matter most to our community.
Moncton has maintained a strong record of financial management, with property tax rates remaining stable or decreasing in recent years while continuing to invest in infrastructure, public safety, and community services. As Mayor, I will continue to support responsible budgeting that protects essential services while planning for the future growth of our city.

Understanding government responsibilities
Each level of government has specific responsibilities, and understanding these roles is important when making decisions that affect our community. Municipal government is responsible for local services such as roads, policing, fire protection, transit, recreation facilities, land use planning, and community infrastructure. These services are funded primarily through municipal property taxes and directly impact the daily lives of residents.
The Province of New Brunswick is responsible for areas such as health care, education, and social services, while the federal government oversees national programs, immigration, and major infrastructure funding. While the City of Moncton often works with both levels of government, these areas do not fall under municipal authority.
Having a clear understanding of these roles helps ensure that decisions are made responsibly and that local tax dollars remain focused on local priorities. Residents can learn more about municipal responsibilities by visiting the City of Moncton website.
